Class 5 are very excited about their History unit 900 CE. Students are learning that at 900 CE different ancient civilizations were rising and declining across the world. In this journey, students will study the ancient Mayan civilization, the Kingdom of Benin and the rise of the Islamic Empire.
For the entry point students needed to be historians and use artefacts and historical sources to make observations about the life cycle of civilizations and the legacies they leave us.
After discovering the Mayan civilization, students couldn’t wait to share about it! So, Class 5 paired up with the youngest primary students and build Maya pyramids out of only two materials; marshmallows and spaghetti.
Currently they are working on making their own codices using Mayan letters and symbols.
