EY Reception: Great Little Artists

As Term 2 continues, EY Reception students immerse themselves in a new project. This time, becoming little artists. Intending to develop creativity, problem solving and fine motor skills, and to promote international mindedness, children are enjoying learning about art.

When focusing on product art, which aims for a particular end look, we have been learning about different painters, the techniques that they use and some of their most important masterpieces. The first painter that we learned about was Vincent Van Gogh. We know he used both bright and dark colours, that he liked to paint portraits and landscapes and that some of his most famous paintings are The Starry Night and The Wheatfield with crows. Similarly, we have been learning about Joan Miró (and some of his paintings, like The birth of the day, working on textures too) and Jackson Pollock. Everyone did such an impressive job.

By contrast, we have been enjoying some process art too. During this, all we care about is the journey of creating our own work of art, there are no instructions on how it should look! From dropper painting to salt painting, this is always bound to be a success. Students have been experimenting, taking risks and making decisions, and responding to the challenges of the project.
