Marvellous Materials with Classy Class 4

In Class 4 our IPC topic has been From Bronze to Bioplastics. A topic all about science with a bit of history of materials, where they come from, how they’re made and the advances in more man-made materials.

We first looked at the materials in our class, what we were surrounded by and made a sculpture with what we could find. We all decided on what sculpture to make and we settled on, geniusly, making our own classroom! This helped us to explore all the materials in our classroom that we use everyday and realised we don’t know much about them! Our classroom was very accurate, right down to the small details. This then led us onto thinking about what materials were available in prehistoric times. We looked at the evolution of materials from the Stone Age, through the Bronze Age, Iron Age, Industrial Revolutions up to modern times. Mr. Haycroft brought in some technical fibres and materials used for more entertaining past times such as skiing and field hockey. We realised that the materials we use today have come a long way from rocks purely used to survive! You can see us checking out the different items and what they were made of in class as well as our mini classroom! We have all become a lot more aware of the materials we wear, use and where they come from and how they’re made. Recycled ocean plastic used to make backpacks is pretty cool.
