Maths & Science Week

Maths & Science WEEK

As part of Maths & Science week, in ICT lessons from C6 to C9, we took a look at some resources provided by Hour of Code and code.org. A little, one-lesson look at coding, to be developed with the individual students’ interest: visit https://hourofcode.com/ie/learn or http://code.org to practise coding, whether drag-and-drop block programming or learning a specific programming language, there is something for almost any age group and interest (design, problem solving, app design …). Once you’re getting a bit more proficient, you could try progressing to https://www.w3schools.com/ for more specific and in-depth tutorials!

Our Class 11 students engaged in an exciting interdisciplinary project known as the Group 4 Project. This activity encouraged students to collaborate across at least two different scientific disciplines, conducting a thorough investigation on a topic of their choice. The students then had the opportunity to present their findings to Classes 10 and 12, inviting constructive criticism and valuable feedback. This experience not only strengthened their scientific inquiry skills but also fostered collaboration and critical thinking, making it a memorable and insightful learning opportunity for all involved.

To wrap up science week with classes 6 to 9, they participated in a scavenger hunt to solve puzzles. Teams of 5 raced against each other and raced against the clock to solve 10 problems scattered around the school. Each answer gave them a letter that they needed to rearrange to crack the password. Some puzzles took much longer than others but nearly all teams managed to finish the course and crack the code. One team was quicker than others, though. Well done to Arnav, Tanish, Arwin, Arham and Suhaani!
