MUN AND DOfE
INTERNATIONAL AWARDS
Our Senior school students have the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award as part of our CCP programme. This is a way to develop, recognise and celebrate students’ non-academic abilities through the world’s leading youth achievement award, which operates in over 140 countries and territories around the globe.
The Award is available to all young people aged 14 to 24. It is voluntary, non-competitive, enjoyable and balanced, and requires sustained effort over time. The Award encourages young people to design their own programme of activities, set their own goals and challenge themselves to achieve their aims. The Award is divided into three levels and four sections, with the Residential Project only being added at Gold level.
BRONZE
For those over 14 years. 6 months minimum participation.
SILVER
For those over 15 years. 12 months minimum participation.
GOLD
For those over 16 years. 18 months minimum participation.
Service
Participants volunteer in their communities, make a positive contribution to society and demonstrate social responsibility.
Physical Recreation
Encourages young people to improve their fitness and performance, and enjoy healthy lifestyles for good mental and physical well-being.
Skills
Enables participants to develop their talents, broaden their abilities, increase their self-confidence and improve their employability.
Adventurous Journey
Young people discover a spirit of adventure and gain a deeper understanding of the environment and great outdoors.
Residential Project
Participants broaden their experience by staying in an unfamiliar environment with other young people, taking part in a worthwhile project and building new relationships.
Obviously, the Adventurous Journey is the section which most students think of as the highlight of this experience, but they also recognise the personal benefits to full participation in the Award.
Once a student has completed a level of the Award, they receive a certificate and a pin in recognition of their achievements.
ENROL YOUR CHILD
Model United Nations is an academic conference exactly like the United Nations, where:
- You represent a country as part of a committee
- You debate a range of global issues.
- You get a chance to voice your opinion
- You write resolutions that propose real-life solutions to today’s most pressing issues
MUN gives students a sense of maturity, independence and responsibility. The practical nature of the conferences allow students to practice skills such as:
- Researching and writing
- Debating and public speaking
- Critical thinking
- Teamwork and leadership
Every year we organise a MUN conference at our school in which all our high school students participate, either as a chair, an admin team member, or as a delegate.
In addition to this, our school attends a range of external conferences each year that students can sign up for.
