At ISBe we believe the arts play a fundamental role in the school and we provide extensive provision for them throughout the school.
ART and DESIGN
At ISBe art stands for creativity in and out of the art & design classes. We believe it is very important that students from all age groups have the opportunity to express themselves in a creative and artistic way. Creating beautiful and impressive artworks does not only help the students to believe in themselves as rich and meaningful individuals but it also helps them to think and act in a more creative manner. Helping the students learn how to use and develop their creative capabilities is one of the key aspects in the art & design classes.
In an ever-changing technological modern world, creative thinking and problem solving will be an indispensable skill all students should learn how to develop. This is why art & design is a valuable subject in a student’s education.
DRAMA
At ISBe, we believe that drama extends beyond mere acting; it serves as a powerful vehicle for developing essential life skills. Our approach to drama is grounded in the conviction that it fosters interpersonal skills, cultivates self-confidence, and nurtures self-expression and imagination. Moreover, we recognize its intrinsic value as a complementary element to all other subjects in school life.
Drama is an integral part of the curriculum at ISBe, spanning classes 4 through to 8. Our program provides students with a unique opportunity to delve into roles and ideas through improvisation, fostering creativity and teamwork. Improvisations can take the form of freestyle expressions or revolve around specific themes or parameters. During these exercises, students learn the importance of collaboration, respecting timeframes, and meeting performance criteria.
In addition to improvisational activities, our curriculum incorporates the use of poems, short texts, and images to stimulate imagination and creativity among students. We go beyond conventional teaching methods to ensure a holistic and engaging learning experience.
Outside of regular class hours, students have the chance to further explore their passion for drama by joining the Drama Club. This extracurricular activity provides an avenue for students to actively participate in two school shows each year, done in collaboration with the Music department. These shows feature plays specially written and devised by our dedicated drama teacher, offering every student a unique opportunity to shine in front of a live audience and gain real-life theatrical experience.
It’s noteworthy that our commitment to drama education extends to our students sitting for LAMDA (London Academy of Music Drama and Arts) exams. This prestigious qualification not only enhances their skills but can also be a valuable asset for university entrance, showcasing their proficiency and achievements in the realm of drama.
MUSIC
At ISBe music education is important because it integrates so many different subject areas all at once and develops additional skills such as multitasking which are important life skills
During our lessons we instruct students with the technical musical concepts such as beat, rhythm and pitch, musical scales and musical notation, which will allow children to develop not only their musical skills but it will also give them the opportunity to work on their Maths skills. For example, time signatures in music are an excellent way to incorporate fractions.
Children have the opportunity to develop composition skills alongside their development as musicians. Participation in our school choir allows children to work together towards a final product such as the “Community Day” performance and “Christmas “ productions. Performing can be one of the most fun things to do as a music student, and also one of the most exciting responsibilities of a music teacher.
There are a variety of after school music clubs including choir, a band and instrumental tuition. The students also perform as part of their IB CAS programme and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
