The Primary Section Stories – 10/11

I hope everyone enjoyed the half-term break and had a chance to recharge ready for the run-up to Christmas. Just before the break, class 2 had their trip to the dinosaur museum, (please see MS Eevi’s newsletter) we also had our Diwali and Halloween celebrations. I felt everyone made a special effort to dress up this year which was great.

Ms Saaachi and the Primary Student Voice Representatives created a wonderful spooky and fun filled event for us all to enjoy and it was a great success. Thank you to everyone who sent in their 5 euros, decorations, cakes etc.

Today was our Armistice Assembly. The whole school met outside to think about why we are having a day off school tomorrow. We discussed the word sacrifice and talked about the sacrifices that have been made for us all by soldiers of the past. Flanders was the scene of some terrible battles and so it is very appropriate that we acknowledge Armistice day in our school. The students were pleased to make a donation for their poppies and are wearing them with pride.

Early years have started their food collection for ‘Moeders vor Moeders’. The trolley is in the entrance awaiting the dried or tinned food gifts that you can spare. Please check they still have a long shelf life. The students are taking great care as they place the items in the shopping trolley. We still need a lot more things so please keep sending them in.

Class 1 took a trip to the toy museum on wednesday to support their IPC unit “The Magic Toymaker’. The feedback that I have had was that they had a wonderful time and learned a lot. The visit has been a great way to support their learning. For them it is hard to believe that toys existed that don’t use electricity!

Next week is our school anti-bullying week. On Tuesday everyone should wear mismatched socks for ‘Odd Sock day’ where we agree it’s ok to be different. Individual classes will be carrying out activities and on Friday we will have a primary assembly on bullying and be creating a kindness tree to record the acts of kindness on that day. As part of our anti-bullying week there is a presentation for parents at 6.00pm on Tuesday 15th. Please join us. I am sure you will find it informative and perhaps give you some food for thought.
