The Primary Section Stories – 16/06/2023

Dear Parents,

Thank you all so much for your support of the Class 1 and 2 fundraiser for Nepal. They organised a fantastic day of activities and treats for the rest of the students and raised over €2,000 for a great cause. Well done to Ms SAachi and Ms Eevi, their classes and families for all their hard work.

Early Years had their annual trip to the farm this week. Always a great favourite of mine. They got to see a whole range of animals up close, try out a pony ride, drive a tractor and lots of other opportunities before having the chance to play for a while. Some very tired but happy children arrived back in school that day.

Class 1 also took a trip this week. They went to MIni Europe in Brussels for a visit. They were able to explore the European town and monument models through the process of a treasure hunt. They all had a wonderful but quite a hot day.

Of course class 3 and 4 had their residential trip to Herentals at the beginning of June. All students had terrific opportunities to explore or try out a whole range of sports and activities. Our students are a credit to us with their wonderful behaviour and enthusiastic participation. One of the new activities was Lu which was an interactive wall sport game that went down very well. Thank you to the dedicated and caring teachers who accompanied them.

Last Friday, Class 5 presented a French assembly. The students shared several skits that they had prepared to help share the vocabulary and sentence structures they have learned. They impressed us all with their French accents.

Please do not send your child to school with a coat in this hot weather. It really isn’t necessary. They are running about outside, the playground is a sun trap and they get very hot. Do however send a hat and apply sunscreen before they come to school.

Class 4 has been working on a collaboration with a Greek school through the link with our former intern Ms Anna. This week they were able to do the final share of their videos and drawings from the project. Well done Ms Mac and class 4 for getting everything ready.

On Tuesday evening there was another class 5 transition meeting for parents. Thank you  to everyone who attended. I am sure you found the presentation from Ms Relf very helpful in preparing you and your child for secondary school.

We wanted to raise awareness of the need to monitor your child’s use of devices, in particular their Chromebooks. Some students are very focussed on games and spend too much time indoors playing them when they should be outside enjoying the fresh air. The following software has been recommended for monitoring your child’s device.https://www.bark.us/ and some parents have also recommended (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.kids.familylink&hl=en&gl=US). We strongly recommend you have something in place. Please let us know how you get on with either of them.

Please keep an eye open for more information about our award ceremonies which will be live streamed this year.

Have a great weekend.
