The Primary Section Stories 17/02/23

Dear Parents,

The ISA testing for class 3,4 and 5 has taken place and the second round of the Olympiad competition happened on the 12th February so the assessments are finished for a while.

We have had a lot of potential new students visiting the school these last few weeks so thank you to everyone who is recommending our school to others.

Last Friday Class 4 performed a fantastic assembly about traditional tales and fables. They acted out several stories from a variety of cultures. They made it very interesting and exciting for us all, with wonderful costumes.

For today’s assembly we had a parade of our Carnival costumes and talked about how Carnival came about. Later in the day primary classes celebrated Carnival in their classrooms.

On Wednesday Ms Megan shared a presentation with Class 4 parents about the PSHE her class is doing and about healthy and unhealthy competition. In PSHE all of our classes talk about relationships, how we get on with others and how to interact with others. I would like to explain that if students feel the need to ridicule others if they make a mistake, put others down or brag about their own achievements we do not consider this good behaviour. Nobody likes a show off and eventually students will find themselves without friends and unpopular in their class. Here at ISBe we are trying to develop the qualities of empathy, forgiveness and compassion for others. Offering kind support to our classmates who may be struggling. We ask that parents support these positive qualities from home too.

Our school open morning will be on the 18th March. All students are needed in school to demonstrate their learning and help present to new and existing parents. It should be very interesting for parents to see all the things that our students learn in school.

On Friday the 31st of March we will be having our first student led conferences. Students from class EYR to class 5 in primary will be sharing their learning with their parents in an age appropriate way. There will be up to 3 families in a classroom at any one time and with the teachers support students will talk about what they have learned, what they are proud of and how they want to improve. At ISBe we encourage students to be active in the learning process and take charge of their learning journey. We want them to be familiar with how they best learn, advocate for themselves and be continuously focused on improvement and growth. We also focus on developing skills of presentation in our students, to empower them to be effective communicators. The schedules for appointments will be shared today. We look forward to seeing you at both of these events.

Have a great weekend.

Information Alert:

ISBe will run Student Led Conferences for the first time ever at the end of term 2!

Research clearly shows us that one of the most powerful tools for students in their learning process is to be able to effectively reflect on their learning and identify their strengths and areas of improvement. This term, instead of a regular report and parent /teacher conferences, students themselves will present their learning and progress through Student Led conferences. This will take a variety of forms depending on the age of the students.

This process will be new to you as well as the students and we are looking for your support in this process as your child gets to showcase their learning.

MORE INFORMATION will be provided in the coming weeks.
