The Primary Section Stories – 26/05/2023

It was so wonderful to see you all at the International Day in school on the 13th May. We were blessed with good weather and everyone had such a wonderful time. I was so impressed by the effort everyone had put into the specific country stalls. Thank you to all our parents who contributed to those. They were well decorated, there were lots of delicious tastes to enjoy and the special costumes added a final touch to the vibrance of the event. It was the first time we have had any embassies present and they added another exciting dimension to the day with their young performers and costumes. I was enthralled with the Chinese Lion Dance performance from the LIon Dance School. I have seen it on TV so many times but in real life it was so much more. The students also performed some marvellous dances and songs. The event raised some funds for school playground equipment so it was a winning day all round.

On Tuesday 16th May Class 4 took a trip to the Musical Instruments Museum (MIM) in Brussels. It was a fantastic trip and the students took part in some very special workshops where they got to play a variety of instruments and discover how their sounds were made. They were also allowed in the Music Atelier room to use a variety of percussion instruments to compose their own informal pieces or improvise in the moment. My favourite sound there was the metallophone. The oldest piano we found was from the 1550s – we couldn’t play that! Our final treat was to see a massive mechanical instrument that played music for dancing using some programming cards. A very memorable experience.

Following on from the instruments, Ms Nichols and Mr Aldo had their baby on the 12th May, a little girl. We send them our fondest congratulations and wish them a wonderful future as a family.

On Wednesday 17th May Class 4 was once again in the limelight. They performed their assembly based on their IPC unit ‘Look, hear!’ They had really delved deeply into the complex science of sound waves and frequency but were able to explain it to the rest of us really well. Likewise the class explained about light and the bending of light waves. Wow, their knowledge is amazing. Very well presented Class 4.

Yesterday we had the Phoenix house event ‘The floor is lava’. The students were very keen to take part in this problem solving and co-operative activity.

Ms Maydaline, our Erasmus intern, will have her last week in school with us next week. We would like to thank her for all her hard work and support. Mayda has travelled from French Guiana to be with us and we have really appreciated her adaptability and enthusiasm. We wish her all the best in her future career.

As a school we are delighted to announce that we have successfully passed the next stage of our NEASC accreditation and will move onto the third part of the process before the end of term.

Have a great weekend!
