The Secondary Section Stories – 03/02

ISBe students are proving to be great communicators, effective organisers and strong leaders as they have taken charge of many school events lately.

Firstly, our student council team arranged the Winter ‘Informal’ last Friday, a dance for class 5- 12. They assumed the responsibility for all aspects of the event – creating a music playlist, arranging logistics and decorations, as well as drinks and snacks. The students had an absolute blast and danced to the tunes of the wicked DJ duo.

The other event was organised by class 7 for all of the secondary school – R u ok? Day. This is modelled on an annual event held in Australia in response to concerns about increased cases of mental health and depression in teenagers and young adults worldwide. It is where people are encouraged to check in with others, discuss what’s on their mind if they feel inclined, chill out, and take time to relax or participate in activities that promote calmness. The class 7 students not only promoted the event but also arranged opportunities for staff and students to distress through music, chill out spaces, artistic pursuits, snacks, yoga etc – congratulations a great event!

In academic pursuits, students are planning pathways and deepening their knowledge, understanding and skills. C8 and C10 have completed their subject selections for IGCSE and IBDP respectively. C6 and C7 are preparing for their exit points by creating space controls for ‘Curiosity’ and unique fashion choices for ‘Creativity’ exit points in their IMYC program.

We have also completed our practice ISA tests in class 3-9. We are excited about receiving our final results for this year in April as we will then have three years of comparative data to track student progress.

C10 and C12 start their mock exams on Monday for the next two weeks in preparation for their IGCSE (April) and IBDP (May) finals in term 3 – we wish them well.

Information Alert:

ISBe will run Student Led Conferences for the first time ever at the end of term 2!

At ISBe we encourage students to be active in the learning process and take charge of their learning journey. We want them to be familiar with how they best learn, advocate for themselves and be continuously focused on improvement and growth. We also focus on developing skills of presentation in our students, to empower them to be effective communicators.

Research clearly shows us that one of the most powerful tools for student in their learning process is to be able to effectively reflect on their learning and identify their strengths and areas of improvement.

This term, instead of a regular report and parent /teacher conferences, students themselves will present their learning and progress through Student Led conferences and a student generated reflection report.

We are looking for your support in this process as your child gets to showcase their learning.

MORE INFORMATION will be provided in the coming weeks.
