Primary Newsletter 03/05/2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have been very busy since the Easter holidays. There have been lots of activities in school and a little bit of extra preparation ready for our NEASC visitors. However, as usual, our students, parents and staff made a wonderful impression on the visitors. They were amazed by the collaboration and sense of belonging in school. We look forward to receiving their written observations in a few weeks time.

Last week was Earth Day but many of our classes celebrated for the full week. On Tuesday the whole Primary sang a song for the rest of the school in the playground. It was called ‘Beautiful Earth’ and the children had instruments and actions to accompany it. It was very moving. I hope there isn’t a child in our school who doesn’t understand ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ and I really liked the expression I saw around school, ‘There is no planet B!’, which conveys the message that if we ruin this planet there is nowhere else to go. Class 4 made a colourful display with this message and I believe class 3 helped them out! On Friday afternoon Early Years invited us into their classroom to show us their Earth day Expo. They had used recycled items to plant seeds, made their own paper and a whole variety of other activities throughout the week. It was interesting to watch them drawing the planet earth with chalk on the playground in their playtimes as a free choice activity.

Last Friday Class 2 presented some of the things they had been working on in Dutch for assembly. They spoke to us in Dutch and then explained what they had said and included a lovely Dutch song. They performed really well and it was very enjoyable for the audience.

On Tuesday 30th April the Early years children {Aged 3 to 6 years] performed their show for the rest of Primary and a few parents who were able to make it into school. They were amazing. They had learned several songs and dance routines.  They had memorised plenty of words too as they took us on an aeroplane trip to the Dominican Republic, England and Iceland. The children even acted as stage hands, organising and handing out the props and supporting each other to be in the right place at the right time. To top off the show they shared a flight attendant song and then invited the audience to participate. We all had fun joining in too. Well done to the students and their teachers. Thank you parents for your support with the costumes and learning their lines.

Some of our boys got to play ‘footie’ in a friendly match against the BJAB school from Brussels on Friday. It was a spirited match but the other side got the most goals.

There have been several house activities lately including the Haiku poetry competition and the Dog and Bone game, as well as the finals of the ISBe games organised by the Primary Student Voice. All of the students had fun and enjoyed the activities. Well done to the students and teachers who organised them.

Class 3 also shared a Dutch assembly today. They are working at a more advanced level and told us all about the characters in fairy tales. They had wonderful costumes and spoke Dutch very clearly and sang a great song. Thank you to the students and their teacher Ms Kristien for the colourful assembly.

I hope the sunshine comes back for the weekend and wish you a wonderful week ahead.
