The Primary Section Stories – 04/04/2025

Primary Newsletter 04/04/2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

This has been quite a short half term but that doesn’t mean there hasn’t been loads going on!

As we told you we had the planned collaboration with Heywood Prep School from Corsham in the UK. Our first activity together was a trip to Chocolate Nation. The students met their penpals for the first time and bonds were formed. They had a lovely time at Chocolate Nation and ate their lunch in Flamingo square together.  On Wednesday the 19th March it was the day of the concert. Each school had been practising the songs and dances separately but now it was time to put it together. After a morning of rehearsal we were ready for the final performance. Class 3 and 6 came to be our audience and we really appreciated the parents who made the effort to come and watch too. The whole thing was a colourful delight with some notable individual performances as well. On Thursday we met again for some sports events in the gym and on the sports field. We were very lucky with the sunny weather and a good time was had by all.  Our final event together was to go to Technopolis in Mechelen. The students got to try out lots of different scientific equipment and worked with their new friends to solve puzzles. Before we knew it, it was time to say goodbye. We all agreed it was a great success and we have been invited to visit them next year!

The staff of Heywood Prep were very complimentary about our students and the experiences they had with us and it was a pleasure for us to work with them. I am sure all of our students made great memories.

Class 3 have come to the end of their unit Temples, Tombs and Treasures. Last Friday they were able to interview a lady from Egypt and get some of their questions answered and on Tuesday they had their Egyptian day. All of the students dressed up in Egyptian costumes and were able to make and taste some Egyptian food. Mr Cruz from the secondary school helped Ms Jenny with this and delighted the students by juggling with the four balls of dough!

On Monday class 5 participated in the competitive sports day with Secondary. They competed with class 6 and gave their all with some great and enthusiastic performances.

Today 6 of our former Primary Student Voice representatives are in Stuttgart presenting at the ECIS education conference with me. They are explaining how our Primary student voice works and some of their achievements for the school and for charity. We hope to have some pictures for the next newsletter and we can let you know how they got on in more detail.

Thank you to everyone who attended the student led conferences. It is a very important part of learning for students to reflect on their own learning development. We hope you made them feel proud of their effort and enjoyed the conversation with them.

I wish you a wonderful holiday and look forward to seeing you all on the 22nd April when school restarts.

Sharon Short
Head of Primary
Safeguarding Lead.
