‘Business’ is a very popular topic. People talk about business in their daily lives. A lot of things are related to business these days. So how are our students prepared in school to know more about business?
According to the Cambridge IGCSE Business Studies syllabus, it develops students’ understanding of business activity in the public and private sectors, and the importance of innovation and change. Students also find out how the major types of business organisations are established, financed and run, and how their activities are regulated.
Here in our school, students doing IGCSE Business are given a lot of chances to work together to understand the business concepts. They need to analyse different business cases, make recommendations for a business and very often they present their work to the class.
IGCSE provides students with the basic Business concepts. Essay writing technique students developed during their IGCSE provides them with a good foundation. Whereas, IB places significant emphasis on both coursework and final exams. In other words, students have to work consistently throughout the two years. Therefore, it is a lot more efficient to set the time management early in their IB journey right in the very beginning.
IB goes far beyond rote memorization and requires students to comprehend theories. IB questions can be tricky and involve overlaps between several topics. So, it is not sufficient to only associate with a formulaic answer. Students need to exercise their critical thinking skills more.
Students’ IB experience will vary greatly from their IGCSE experience academically, socially, and personally. Although it may seem daunting, IB can be a rewarding journey that will surely teach you a lot of things.
