A House Update

Phoenix event

A few weeks ago, the whole school – primary and secondary – participated in a quick and feisty event run by the Phoenix house; the Dog and the Bone event.

Each house came forward with a team of 9 people, and then the showdown began. The aim of the game was to grab the ‘bone’ in the middle of the playground and make it back to your team before the other team tagged you.

In secondary, Unicorns came first, winning 100 house points, closely followed by Phoenix. In primary, Dragons took the win, also earning 100 house points, once again followed by Phoenix. The game ran calmly and smoothly, and everyone got to have a laugh at some funny and iconic moments that will go down in ISBe history. Additionally, there were some last minute comebacks, leading to some epic wins. Overall it was an entertaining event, with smiles and laughter all around, and the rest of the school cheering their heads off from the sidelines.

Haiku event

The Haiku Event on the 30th of April, organised by both the House Committee and the House Captains, turned out to be a major success, with Phoenix taking both wins, for Primary and Secondary. The event was a win for all Houses as they could show off their creative skills in writing.

Each team was given a picture as a prompt and then were given about 5-10 minutes to write up a Haiku which addressed their picture. Each team closely communicated with their own members and came up with fantastic ideas of how to write their Haikus in creative ways. The Secondary teams used their language knowledge to create a better effect of the poem, whereas the primary teams mostly used their creativity and imagination to write up their Haikus.

The Secondary Phoenix team took the win with a fantastic Haiku, in which they absolutely impressed everyone with their language skills. Although each house did deliver their own good Haiku, the Phoenix just pushed through with theirs. It was a close call; nobody knew who was going to win, but in the end Phoenix came away with the win.

The Primary event was very close as all three houses made good Haikus. In the end though, Phoenix came out on top, with amazing writing skills. All three Houses came up with amazing Haikus and all of them were able to write one properly using the specific syllable count important for a Haiku.
