“Action is the foundational key to all success.”
– Pablo Picasso
Success comes with effort and tactics. Business students are always in action, working hard and collaborating with each other to understand different forms of business organisations, the environments in which businesses operate and business functions such as marketing, operations and finance. In the lessons, they are always given real cases to discuss the business concepts and how the concepts relate to our daily lives. They also need to analyse business situations and reach decisions or judgments. Not only do they acquire Business knowledge, but also they gain lifelong skills, for example, the ability to calculate and interpret business data and communication skills needed to support arguments with reasons.
Class 9 students have learned how a business activity operates and how employees are motivated by leaders with different management styles. Apparently, most of our students are democratic leaders who encourage employees to be involved in the decision-making process.
Whereas, Class 10 students have learned marketing principles, strategies and the last section on external influences on business issues.
Collaborative learning is adopted in Business Studies, students need to collaborate with each other. Teacher as a facilitator takes the role to assist students to understand the key concepts and apply the concepts in a different context. A meaningful context is provided with students to learn with and from each other. Business students are required to enhance group discussions through giving constructive comments. They are always engaged in lessons and their discussions can be quite intense at times. To succeed, students also need strategic tactics to familiarize themselves with the key concepts and the marking criteria of the past exam papers. Therefore, we put a lot of effort into studying the skills to approach and answer questions well.
In fact, studying Business Studies goes more than running a business, making money and so on, it is more about making right decisions with the constraints we have in life. In fact, this is the skill I hope my Business students acquire in the end.
