“Cabinet of Curiosities” ART at ISBE

Students have worked very hard this month and have learned about several different art concepts such as tone, contrast, shading, composition and  many different art techniques. Students were also inspired by several famous artists and art movements. Here is a quick overview of all the wonderful things that happened in the art room this month.

Class 4 students made some amazing looking abstract artworks around the artist Henry Mattise. They also practiced their observational drawing skills during the Chameleon splatter paint project.

The talented students of class 5 made some truly stunning looking portraits in the symbolism/ art nouveau style. These artworks were inspired by the artist Gustav Klimt. During this project the students combined many different techniques like aquarelle and coloured pencil.

Danny fox was the artist that inspired the students from class 6 to create creative and beautiful cardboard houses. Students also learned the fine marker shading technique during the Newspaper illustration from the 19th/20th Century project. These creative illustrations were drawn with fine marker pens to replicate the illustrations from old newspapers. ICT skills were integrated when the students placed their drawn illustrations on a digital photograph.

Class 7 students worked around the artist Geoff McFetridge to learn more about the technique to simplify characters and figures and to make them more abstract looking. The students also started a project about black and white contrast. This project is guided by the artist Borges J.

The works from Barry McGee were the inspiration for a big mixed media project for the students of class 8. During this project the students combined several techniques and skills in one huge composition on paper. Included in this project are things like perspective drawing, fabric art, optical illusions, etc. Students also started an observational drawing exercise/artwork with fine marker pens. For this project the students are drawing from direct observation of animal photographs in the style of the artists Daniel Cecelja.

Class 9 students started their coursework for the IGCSE. And class 10 finalized their IGCSE art & design coursework and paper.

All of the artworks from all students are vissible on the school’s art website:
