Class 1 has been busy doing lots of thing!
We has been learning all about the brain. They started off by dissecting a jelly brain to find out about all the functions of the brain. They learnt how the brain controls everything we do like move, think, remember, sleep etc. They did a jigsaw puzzle to understand how all the subjects are interconnected and that we can improve our learning by knowing how each piece fits together. They also learnt what the terms knowledge, skills and understanding mean. To understand that in order to learn we need to have both knowledge and skills. The students had to figure out clues given by professor Sparks for a Super Sparks Challenge! Now that they have figured out the Challenge we cannot wait to do it next week!!!
We also celebrated International Dot Day on 15th September. International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration, began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009. It was established to celebrate creativity, courage, and collaboration, the celebration is easily one of the most fun days of the year! Celebrated by both children and adults, International Dot Day is a day to connect, collaborate, and create. It’s also a great day to foster self-expression.
On 21st September, we celebrated World Peace Day. The students sung a beautiful song and learnt about what the word ‘peace’ means and how all of us can work towards being peaceful humans. We know that our children are our hope for the future, so we remain hopeful that with love, respect, learning, and meaningful experiences, our children will “Light a Candle for Peace” today and always. We wish and will work for a peaceful world for all.
On Wednesday, we started our second IPC unit ‘People of the Past’ by having a ‘famous people from the past’ party as our entry point. Some famous personalities that students dressed up as included Anne Frank, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Vasco Di Gamma, Isaac Newston, Isala Van Diest, and Ada Lovelace. This will be an ongoing unit for the next 10 months.
