Early English / Phonics

We use Monster Phonics (https://monsterphonics.com) to support children as they develop the early skills needed for reading and writing. The programme uses stories, songs, rhymes, movement and sound-based activities to build listening, language and sound awareness. As children are ready, they are introduced to letter–sound relationships, with Monster Phonics characters and colour cues helping to make new sounds memorable.

Monster Phonics follows a structured progression, building on what children have already learned as they move towards reading and writing. Its multisensory approach combines visual, auditory and interactive elements, and the programme is also designed to support children learning English as an additional language

Early Mathematics

We use Abacus Maths (Abacus Math Curriculum) to develop children’s early understanding of mathematics and build a strong foundation for future learning. Abacus is based around three key principles: understanding, progression and giving teachers the flexibility to respond to their pupils. The programme aims to develop conceptual understanding, numerical fluency, problem-solving skills and confidence in mathematics.

In the Early Years, children explore mathematical concepts such as number, counting, shapes, measurement and comparing quantities. Abacus provides a clear progression of learning, with activities designed to help children develop and apply their mathematical understanding as they move through the early stages of school.
