Interdisciplinary learning facilitates connections between various subjects. Through this students’ knowledge is enhanced and learning is more interesting and fun.
When students are able to make connections between the subjects they are studying they have a better understanding of the topic from different viewpoints. For example when studying the topic “Rebirth of ideas and ways of looking at the world” class 7 learned about new forms of literature in English, the Renaissance period in Humanities, created perspective artwork in art classes and discussed revolutionary scientists in science. This gives the students a much better understanding of how a rebirth of ideas could change the way we view the world in so many different disciplines.
Interdisciplinary learning has brought a new level of excitement to middle school. Teachers are enthusiastic to integrate the connections in their lessons and students are excited to make the connections. What a great way to learn!
