Primary Newsletter 04/10/2024
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have continued to start with the year with plenty of activities and additional learning opportunities for our students.
All classes from 1 to 6 took part in the local cross country race at the Aartselaar sports centre. The weather was good and as always there was some stiff competition but our students demonstrated great resilience and good sportsmanship to make it a very enjoyable event.
Here are some thoughts from Mr Gabor:
We have been honoured to participate in the traditional Cross Country competition this year again. The weather was perfect and the students were so excited to show their potential against Cade students. It was a great experience for our athletes especially the class 1 students who competed for the first time. We have spent three weeks with the preparation and training and it was great to see the development of the students following every practice. Every participant is a winner as they show their strength, stamina, endurance, dedication and sportsmanship. They did not only want to be faster than others but wanted to expand their boundaries.
Last Friday was Friendship Friday and all classes talked about what makes a good friend, social skills and learned a playground game. Class 5 also presented an assembly about friendship. They shared a lovely story, gave us some tips and reminded us of the saying ‘do unto others as you would have them do unto you’. Always a good rule for life. In fact the story they shared was called ‘Do unto otters’ and was a funny take on the saying. Well done class 5 and Ms G.
On Tuesday we had a special performance from class 2 of the popular story,’We’re going on a bear hunt’. Class 2 presented this chorally and accompanied themselves with a series of appropriate instruments. They gave a polished performance, sang well, knew their lines and were very sensible with the instruments. It was very entertaining. As a special extra surprise class 1 also performed a song. It was a call and response song with lots of actions and it included bears too! The students were very engaged and enthusiastic and also did a great job. Well done classes 1 and 2 and Ms Nichols. It was a lovely treat for us all.
Today it was class 3’s turn to present the assembly. After their trip to the park for the litter pick up on World Clean up day, the theme they chose for assembly was Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! A very important message for us all. They explained to us all about how the things we waste goes back into the ground and how detrimental this is to our planet. The message was very clear and I hope our students can share it with you at home. They included a song and performed it very enthusiastically and well. Great work Class 3 and Ms Victoria.
As many of you will know there has been some illness going around the staff and students and some of our teachers have been absent. We have been able to replace the absent teachers with fully qualified staff and lessons have continued as usual. We are very proud of the sensible way our students have carried on and worked hard under these circumstances.
Tomorrow is teachers day but we will be celebrating in school on Monday. If your child would like to make their teacher a card at home, Monday is the day to bring it in.
The Olympiads start on the 15th October. We are still able to accept entries for the General Knowledge Olympiad, but we need them in the next day or so.
Don’t forget Halloween is in the holidays this year but we will still be dressing up on Friday 25th October. Start getting your scary outfits ready now.
I wish you a wonderful weekend and a great week ahead.
