Schoonselhof

The gradual easing of restrictions and the slow rising of temperatures have finally given rise to the perfect condition for an outdoor excursion – and boy did the students of Classes 6 and 7 seized that opportunity! Off they went, these adolescents, with pent-up energy and curious minds, to experience what digital learning cannot offer, a chance to explore in person the beauty of Begraafplaats Schoonselhof, a large heritage park containing the military graves of servicepersons from both World Wars.

As they wandered the grounds, the students learnt about those who had given their lives to their countries and about various funerary customs – Jewish, Christian, and Islamic. Respite was found on the steps of a large mansion overlooking a beautifully manicured garden, where the students, despite not being able to share their meals just yet, managed to share a moment together as a team of learners over lunch and a game of tag.

What a way to spend an afternoon – soaking in the sun in a place steeped in history.

Here’s to more opportunities of such.
