Secondary Newsletter 06/09/2024
To our valued parents and ISBe community members,
Welcome back to our returning families! It’s been fantastic to see our students so excited to be back on campus, reconnecting with their friends, and diving into their learning. A special welcome to our new families—I’m sure you will love being a part of the ISBe community! We’ve kicked off the year on a great note, with everyone getting back into the groove of productive routines and embracing the opportunities that lie ahead. Here’s a glimpse of what’s been happening:
We’ve welcomed a new cohort of Class 6 students to secondary school, and they are actively navigating the challenges of adjusting to a new environment. Their smiles show they are maintaining a positive attitude and tackling any hurdles with determination. Next week, they will embark on their first IMYC (International Middle Years Curriculum) unit, “Adaptability,” which will set the stage for their exciting learning journey.
Meanwhile, students in Classes 7 and 8 seem to have returned from vacation taller and more mature. Class 7 is preparing to start their IMYC unit on “Communication,” while Class 8 has already begun their unit focused on “Leadership.”
Our high school students have hit the ground running from day one, whether they are starting a new programme or preparing for their final exam year. While both the IGCSE and IBDP demand academic focus and hard work, we recognize the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between academics and other interests for all four high school classes. We encourage involvement in activities—whether competitive or recreational—in the arts, sports, or various clubs. A healthy body supports a healthy mind, enhancing overall success.
Classes 10-12 are gearing up for their Duke of Edinburgh trip to Luxembourg on Monday, continuing the practice expedition they began in June. Class 10 students will complete their Bronze Qualifying Award, while some Class 11 and 12 students will aim for their Silver Award. They have been busy training in map navigation and outdoor skills, preparing for this exciting adventure that will test their teamwork, resilience, and leadership. We look forward to hearing about their achievements!
We are excited to announce that, in the coming weeks, we will be focusing on building our student leadership teams, including the Student Council and House Captains and Vice Captains. These roles provide a fantastic opportunity for students to develop leadership skills, collaborate with peers, and have a voice in shaping the school experience.
The Student Council will consist of representatives from each class, who will work together to bring forward ideas, organize events, and promote positive change within the school. This council plays a crucial role in fostering a sense of community and encouraging student participation in various school activities.
Meanwhile, we will also be selecting House Captains and Vice Captains for each house. These student leaders will play a key role in promoting school spirit, organizing house events, and leading their peers in various challenges and competitions throughout the year. The House Captains and Vice Captains will work closely with teachers and students to create a vibrant and supportive school culture.
We encourage all students to consider taking part in these leadership opportunities, as they provide valuable experiences in responsibility, teamwork, and communication. We believe that developing these skills will benefit them not just within the school community but also in their future endeavors. We are looking forward to a year filled with dynamic leadership and enthusiastic participation from all students!
