Secondary Newsletter 20/09/2024

Secondary Newsletter 20/09/2024

To our valued parents and ISBe community members,

The past two weeks have been filled with exciting developments and opportunities for growth within our school community. Students from Classes 10 and above participated in their Duke of Edinburgh qualifying expedition, facing challenges that tested their endurance, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. We are proud to share that many of them successfully earned their Silver and Bronze Awards, demonstrating their perseverance and commitment.

Leadership opportunities have been thriving across the school, with recent elections for house and student council class representatives for Classes 6-9. This year, we took a different approach by creating separate positions for a boy and girl representative in each class, which marks a change from previous years. In contrast to house elections, where students delivered speeches to campaign for house leadership, this new structure has offered more targeted roles within each class. Hearing the students’ speeches has been truly inspiring, as they passionately shared their goals and ambitions.

For Grades 9 and above, class representatives were selected through individual interviews, providing a more personalized evaluation of their leadership potential. Additionally, I had the privilege of interviewing these class repretatives as well as the president and vice president pairs running for the student council. These candidates are currently running their election campaigns, and next Tuesday, they will present their speeches before the final vote takes place. It’s been rewarding to engage in meaningful conversations with all the candidates, exploring their vision for the school and witnessing their enthusiasm for serving their peers.

Additionally, I had the distinct pleasure of traveling to Prague last week, where I led an IB training session for educators from around the world. It was an enriching experience, filled with vibrant discussions about best practices in education and collaboration with professionals who are just as passionate about student growth and leadership as we are.

Looking ahead, we are excited to announce the upcoming cross-country run for Class 6, taking place on September 24th at the Commune/ Sports Complex. The schedule is as follows:

  • 10:15 AM: Start Class 6 Girls 1000m
  • 10:25 AM: Start Class 6 Boys 1000m

We encourage all parents and guardians to come out and support your children during this event. It promises to be a day filled with school spirit and athletic achievement!

These past weeks have been marked by growth, leadership, and the pursuit of excellence. Our students continue to demonstrate resilience, creativity, and a genuine desire to contribute to their school and broader community. We look forward to the positive impact our new leaders will have, both inside and outside the classroom, as we continue to build an environment where everyone can thrive.
