Super Humans – IPC Class 1

Class 1 has been exploring the IPC unit called ‘Super Humans’. This unit is going to help us to learn all about the human body.

We also have a guest visiting us in our classroom during this unit. Can you guess who it is? Uhmm a biology teacher? No! A doctor? No No! Maybe a skeleton? Yess!! You guessed it right. We have named him Mr. Bones! Do you know how many bones he has? 206! How amazing is that?! He stands in front of our classroom so we can see and understand the structure of our bodies. To understand how our senses help us experience the world,  we did a sensory field walk on our playground during which the children had to look or think of something which they could see, taste, hear, feel and smell. Now you might be thinking “ seeing, listening, feeling/ touching or smelling something on the playground can be done but – oh my goodness, what can the students taste on the playground?” Well luckily it was drizzling during our investigatory walk and so the children realised they could taste the raindrops. They are pretty clever, aren’t they?!

The children also had the opportunity to test out stethoscopes which was pretty incredible. Of course each stethoscope was disinfected properly before another student could put it in their ear.

This week we have carried our research activities further and tried to answer some research questions such as why our pupil changes in size, how our sense of touch works, how sound travels into our ears, if fishes can smell underwater and why we sometimes cannot taste food if our nose is blocked.

We cannot wait to learn more about our incredible bodies that make us and all of you… SUPER HUMANS!!!
