The Primary Section Stories – 08/10

Dear Parents and carers,

As a staff we celebrated teachers day this week and some of our students had surprises for their class teachers. I saw Miss Mac wearing a crown for most of the morning. We also had a visit from a group of primary head teachers from other International Schools in Belgium. They were very impressed by our school and the positive atmosphere everywhere they went.

Last week Class 3 shared about their Brainwave unit in assembly. We start each year with the Brainwave units which get the children to think about their learning skills and how they actually learn. Class 3 explained how to keep our brain’s healthy, by drinking enough water and exercising. They also talked about all the work our brain does. This week class 2 shared about their unit on ‘Footprints in the past.’ They introduced us to some fantastic dinosaurs and told us all about them. They acted out some of their behaviours too. They had some amazing props. Very well done to both classes.

On Wednesday 13th October at 9.00am there will be a virtual Primary Coffee Morning where all of the classes will be sharing videos of their assemblies or other activities in school. Here is the Zoom link.

We hope to see you all there.

Yesterday evening we had our annual parent safeguarding meeting. Thank you to all those parents who took part. Safeguarding is a very important part of our school work and we wanted you to know about it and also to know that as a school we are very willing to help with any concerns you may have. We did have a parent query about the bus and I am still looking into that.

The Herentals trip letter for classes 3 and 4 went out this week and I am pleased to say that most children have already returned their permission slip. Please send yours back as quickly as you can if you haven’t done so already.

On the 29th October we will be having our Halloween celebration. This year, being aware of the difficulties our planet is under and the continual waste that is thrown away we are asking our students (and parents) to try and make their costumes from things they have at home already. Reusing or recycling items and maybe creating costumes from junk materials, anything like this will be greatly valued. Often our families are very creative and we really want to encourage that.

We will be sending the students outside in damp and wet weather. If you want to send boots into school for these occasions please make sure they have your childs name in them.

Have a great weekend and a great week ahead.

Head of Primary and Designated Safeguarding Officer.
