The Primary Section Stories – 09/09

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have now been back in school for our first full week and the staff and students are settling back into school life. On Wednesday we had our first House Pride day when we asked the children to dress up and support their house. Many of our primary students made the effort to be in the right colour, created placards and carried items in their house colour but a few of our students really got into the swing of things, went the extra mile and won 100 bonus points for Phoenix House. We hope to see more wonderful outfits for our next house pride day.

Today we had an assembly with Ms Nichols, our ‘in house’ story teller. Once again she enchanted and enthralled our students with the tale of ‘40 Fortunes’ from Iran. It was about a man who became a good deal wiser after his adventures. She wore her fortune teller cape to add to the experience.

This week the students also met with ‘Madame’ Nichols, (Ms Nichols alter ego). Madame Nichols is a native French speaker and has taken over the French lessons for class 4 and 5 in Primary. You can tell it is Madame Nichols you are talking to because she always wears her special necklace with ‘La Tour Eiffel’ on it. Have a look at them both below!

The Olympiad letters went out via Engage this week. We are offering the  Maths and Science competitions to class 3 and above in school this year. If you want your child to take part please return the completed consent form and the 10 euros as quickly as possible. The science competition is on the 18th October and students must be registered at least a month beforehand.

On Monday the nominations for the Primary Student Voice will be completed. Representatives from Class 1 to Class 5 will be announced on the 23rd September. Ms Saachi will run the Primary Student Voice this year and I know there will be lots of opportunities for the students’ ideas to be put into action.

Next week I will be sending out some forms relating to our MOS Vlaanderen project to develop the school grounds. Please make sure you fill them out – they won’t take long – so that all of our parents’ opinions are taken into consideration as this project moves forward.

Today students from Primary, classes 1 to 5, have taken part in the local cross country competition in Aartselaar. I haven’t had the results yet but I saw our students giving their best and trying really hard. Well done to everyone who took part.

As it is the beginning of the year, I would like to remind all parents to read the parent handbook carefully. Especially attendance, jewellery and school clothes. Primary students are not supposed to wear jewellery to school. All shoulder length hair should be tied up securely for the whole day.  Please also make sure your children are using ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ as a matter of course in their conversations, as we don’t want them to sound rude when they ask for or receive things. Thank you for your help with this.

It is great to be back in school. Things are going very well so far. If anyone needs help setting up Engage please contact the school for assistance.

Kind regards to all.
