The Primary Section Stories – 10/9

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a wonderful start to the year. It has been great seeing the students again and to meet some of the new faces. I am sure your children have been giving you positive feedback already.

We started with an outdoor assembly for the whole school, where the students got to see the new teachers and Mr Johnson gave a formal welcome. We have restarted our regular Friday assemblies and last week we watched the new School House video. On Tuesday the 14th September the  students will come to school dressed in their house colour. Dragons – green, Phoenix – yellow and Unicorns – blue for our first ‘house pride’ day. Please do not fall back on PE uniform for the day. There will be four house pride days and other house activities so it is worth getting a t-shirt in the right colour. Today Ms Nichols performed a wonderful story with musical accompaniment for our primary classes.

Today many of our children also took part in the local cross country event. It was hard going as it was so warm. We look forward to finding out the results next week.

On wednesday there was a big event when we opened the school sandpit. The students enjoyed watching its construction and tried to sneak in there from time to time before it was ready. We had to be vigilant! However, Mrs Harwood and I cut the ribbon and declared it ‘officially open’ and now all of the primary classes have a rota to go in there. It has been a long awaited facility and the students are very excited to use it.

We are also beginning our student council elections and the student council will be set up on the 15th September. The students who wanted to be councillors wrote their own manifesto and presented it to their classmates and then each class held an election. The final candidates are to be interviewed by Ms Relf before they start.

The EY classes have now started their units. EY F took an imaginative journey on a flying carpet into the playground where they found an obstacle course. This is related to their IEYC unit and was their entry point.

The primary classes have been working on their Brainwave unit and thinking about how they learn and how they can help themselves to learn better.Taking responsibility for your own learning is a key feature of good learners.

You will shortly be receiving invites from class teachers for our ‘settling in’ meetings. This is a chance to speak to the teacher for a few minutes to check everything has been going smoothly so far for your child and to check they have everything they need.

Warm wishes for a wonderful weekend.
