The Primary Section Stories – 10 March 2023

The snow this week was a big surprise but everybody enjoyed a few moments looking at it or playing with it. Then the next day we had our pyjama day and for some combined with bedtime stories. As usual there is never a dull moment

Last Friday Class 3 performed a fantastic assembly about the things they had been learning in their latest IPC unit ‘How Humans Work.’ They had some clever skits where they visited the doctors surgery and asked questions about their body. I complimented the ‘doctors’ on their bedside manner and was amazed at how they managed to get William Shakespeare and some maths into it as well!

For today’s assembly Class 2 were also sharing the learning from their unit ‘Superhumans’ with us.

Class 2 certainly knows how to look after their bodies and to get the best from them. They gave us plenty of tips too. Well done class 2.

The EY classes recently took a trip to Technopolis, a science museum in Mechelen, and it was a huge success. Everyone had a blast exploring the interactive exhibits and a wide variety of scientific concepts and principles through interactive exhibits, hands-on activities, and demonstrations. The museum’s hands-on approach allowed all the children to engage with the exhibits in a way that was both educational and entertaining. From role play simulations to big-scale construction activities, all the students had the opportunity to explore a wide range of scientific fields. Overall, the EY team had an amazing time at Technopolis and left feeling inspired by all the possibilities of science and technology.

Class 5 has been learning about ancient civilisations that were rising and declining around 900 CE. For their trip they visited the collection of pre-Columbian objects in gold, jade, stone, textiles and shell of the MAS Museum in Antwerp. Together with a guide, they discovered the amazing relationship between man and the world of gods and ancestors in Central America before the conquest by the Europeans.

As mentioned in our last newsletter, our school open morning will be on the 18th March from 10.00- 12.00. All students are needed in school by 9.45 to demonstrate their learning and help present to new and existing parents. It should be very interesting for parents to see all the things that our students learn in school. Contact reception if you would like to bring potential families along.

On Friday the 31st of March we will be having our first student led conferences. Students from class EYR to class 5 in primary will be sharing their learning with their parents in an age appropriate way. There will be up to 3 families in a classroom at any one time and with the teachers support, students will talk about what they have learned, what they are proud of and how they want to improve. At ISBe we encourage students to be active in the learning process and take some control of their learning journey. We want them to be familiar with how they best learn, advocate for themselves and be continuously focused on improvement and growth. We also focus on developing presentation skills in our students, to empower them to be effective communicators. You have received your appointments from the class teachers, please let us know if there are any issues. PLease note very new students will have a ‘settling in’ meeting instead. We look forward to seeing all of you at both of these events.

Have a great weekend.
