The Primary Section Stories – 22/10

Last week Class 1 performed a lovely assembly about people from the past, especially the first Emperor of China. They were able to explain about all the things he had done, some of which weren’t very nice and some of which were great. They asked the audience questions and helped them find the answers. They were able to say their parts very well and finished with a very confident Chinese folk song. Well done class 1.

This week in assembly we reviewed our Mission words, DREAM, ACHIEVE, CELEBRATE and UNITE. We then went on to the school house Riddlethon. The students had a great time trying to work out the riddles, although it was quite hard for some of them. The answers were quite funny.  They were well supported by their housemates. Well done to everyone who took part.

Wednesday 13th October at 9.00am was our virtual coffee morning. There were a few technical difficulties to start with and some of the sound was not great but eventually we got to see each class sharing some of their learning or the assemblies they had performed. It was really lovely, but we are starting to feel that this method does not really show the spirit and performance skills of our students. So.., we are going to try live streaming again next time. We will probably just do two or so classes at a time to make it manageable and see how that goes. All parents will still be welcome to watch.

Early Years finally got to have their trip to Rollebolle, this time in Borgerhout. The children took part in a rotation of activities designed to improve their coordination, fine and gross motor skills as well as other aspects of the curriculum. They had a wonderful time and some of the activities were very exciting. They built models with some fantastic construction materials, rode on glider bikes, trolleys and gondolas with poles, covered obstacle courses – needing balance and agility, worked cooperatively to lift individual children together, practised throwing, used space hoppers and so the adventures continued. The classes were very well behaved and so polite. Well done, Early Years.

The final day for the ski trip reply is Monday. Class 5 please get your replies in quickly. We know some parents are concerned about needing to cancel if their contract changes, but we have insurance to cover such circumstances and will be able to arrange a refund for this particular situation, so please go ahead and book it.

On the 29th October we will be having our Halloween celebration. This year, being aware of the difficulties our planet is under and the continual waste that is thrown away we are asking our students (and parents) to try and make their costumes from things they have at home already. Reusing or recycling items and maybe creating costumes from junk materials, anything like this will be greatly valued. Often our families are very creative and we really want to encourage that. The PA will be selling some goodies on that day too so please send your children in with a couple of euros so that they can buy a snack.

We are fully into Autumn now and there are lots of different things to see and find outside. Here is an article from Community Playthings that would be fun to do with your primary age children. https://www.communityplaythings.co.uk/Learning-Library/Articles/Nature-patterns-with-loose-parts

Have a great weekend and a great week ahead.
