The Primary Section Stories – 24/01/2025

Primary Newsletter 24/01/2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had quite a few brisk days these last two weeks but I am glad to see that students are wrapped up well and able to go out and enjoy the winter weather.

Last week it was the Primary STEAMFEST. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths and all of our classes got to work in these subject areas throughout the week. There were some fantastic activities from Early Years to Class 5. We rounded off the week with a bit of a quiz from Ms Mac, which the students loved and by visiting each other’s classes to see the projects they had undertaken.

Some class 5 students were able to go to Thomas Moore University in Mechelen for an Antarctica day where they used additional technology including VR headsets and other specialist equipment to explore global warming and its effects on Antarctica and its wildlife.

Last week we also saw the construction of our willow bower at the back of the school. Once the willow branches start to sprout in the spring we should begin to see the full effect. One or two or our students were able to help with the construction which they were very pleased about.

On Thursday classes two and three went to the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. They saw a special performance for children. Composer Fabian Künzli crafted captivating music for a magical tale by Howard Griffiths. This dynamic duo, experienced in delighting children with the symphony’s vibrant spectrum, invited our students’ young minds on a unique journey. They Immersed themselves in the story featuring cat music and a mouse band, as the orchestra, led by a true maestro, brings the magic to life alongside a violin-playing witch. They also got to sing along at certain points. All of the students enjoyed the experience as did the accompanying teachers. We were all wearing our mouse ears, as requested, and participated as much as we could. Thank you to Ms Nichols for arranging the visit and Ms Jenny and Ms Irina for supervising on the day.

On Friday Class 3 and EY went to Technopolis. They both had a wonderful day enjoying all that Technopolis has to offer. Our students were as always very well behaved and learnt a lot. Read more about class 3 HERE

All week has been Spirit week and I would like to thank all families who managed to keep up with the costume changes. You were exceptional! Dressing up always raises peoples spirits and gives us all a good giggle.

On Monday the school photos took place. We will let you know as soon as they are available.

I wish you a wonderful weekend and a great week ahead.
