The Primary Section Stories 27/10/2023

Dear Parents and Carers,

We have had a lot of fun this week in preparation for Halloween. Years ago this was quite a scary celebration with sinister undertones, now thank goodness it is all good fun. Our children certainly seem to enjoy the scary costumes and even the littlest of students realise it is all pretend.

We doubled up on the assembly today with class 1 performing their assembly linked to their IPC unit ‘The Magic Toymaker’. All of the students had worked hard to learn their lines. This was  followed by the Halloween costume parade. The whole of primary school looked very colourful in their fantastic costumes. The staff looked pretty good too!

On Tuesday we had the House pumpkin carving competition. Last year all sorts of accessories were allowed but this year they took it back to basics and only carving was allowed. Each house chose to represent their house mascot. It is very tricky to get the fine details for some of the images but the finished pumpkins looked fabulous and are in the entrance now. Congratulations to each house team that took part.

Class 1 went on their first trip of the year yesterday. They had a wonderful time at the Toy Museum in Mechelen with a great guide, Peter taking them through the toy eras and helping them with the toy workshops. They came back elated. Well done Ms Michelle, Ms Liliana and Ms Amelia who accompanied the children on the trip.

Well done to the rockets (EYF), Mrs Harwood and team for organising the food collection. We managed to fill the trolley in record time and the food has now been boxed up and is ready to take to ‘Moeders voor Moeders’. Please keep an eye out for Mrs Harwoods letter with the full information in the next day or so.

Today the Primary Student Voice, Ms Saachi (together with Class 2 and with some help from Class 1 and Class 5) put on a wonderful Halloween event to launch the Primary Student Voice Healthy Eating campaign. They arranged lots of fun Halloween activities that did not involve eating and drinking unhealthily. One of my favourite foods was the apple and peanut butter spiders with pretzel sticks for legs, but we could also make fruit skewers and there was plenty of fresh popcorn. We used the home made playdough to make our own monsters, pinned the spider on the web, did some cool science experiments and made slime to name but a few of the activities available.  Everyone had a lot of fun and raised funds to support the Primary student voice activities for the school. A great job by everyone involved, thank you.

Thank you to everyone who attended the primary workshop on Feedback and Marking. It was a pleasure to have you join us. Here is a link to the presentation. Please be aware that the sheets have the basics only. There is a lot of talking and explanation shared around each slide. If you have any questions please speak to your class teachers or contact me.

Some of our secondary students are away at the moment in Marbella for the schools world cup. We have a girls and a boys team and we wish them all well.

Yesterday we had a visitor in school. Ms Kam Chohan, the executive director of ECIS ( a famous education support company) Kam was delighted to see our school. She is of Indian descent and passionate about ensuring students of all nationalities have the best aspirations and opportunities in life. We look forward to welcoming her back in the not too distant future.

If you like to know more about class 3 go HERE.

Very best wishes for the half term break and we’ll see all the students again, bright and early on Monday the 6th November.
