The Primary Section Stories – 29/03/2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

Once again our Student Led Conferences were a great success. We cannot emphasise how beneficial it is for the students to report on their own learning, appreciate how they have moved forward and set themselves some goals. Positive parental comments also have a huge impact, showing how our families value education. Reflecting on their learning helps to make the process clearer to them and reinforces the growth mindset that is essential for successful learning.  We hope you enjoyed the time with your children, learning about what they have been learning.

Last week we had a Ramadan assembly. Our students who follow the Islamic faith were able to share some of the key facts about Ramadan and how they celebrate in their own homes. The students presented very well and brought in some artefacts to help with their presentations. Class 2 sang a song about Ramadan and then everyone had the opportunity to try a date, the traditional food to end the fast each day.

This Monday, our Early Years students embarked on an exciting trip to Technopolis. They had the chance to explore various child-friendly environments, including a city, a park, and a construction site. Throughout the day, they learned about the human body and engaged in enjoyable activities. In the construction zone, they had a blast playing with gears and imagining themselves building houses while wearing safety helmets. In the city area, they embraced roles like baking pizzas, serving in a restaurant, and even handling fake money with their faces on it! Additionally, they visited the ‘My Body’ area, where the children discovered fascinating facts about themselves. They had the opportunity to sit behind the wheel of a real ambulance, lie down on a gurney, and even pedal around with a skeleton. It was a day filled with both learning and fun, creating memories that will surely last a lifetime.

On Tuesday class 1 took a visit to Antwerp Zoo! They visited the zoo as it was linked to our IPC unit: Green Fingers. During our visit we got to see loads of beautiful and interesting animals like apes, reptiles, fish, zebras and even flamingos! They were very lucky with the weather, it didn’t rain! They did lots of walking, Ms Vijaya’s watch said we walked 8,000 steps! A few of the students even fell asleep on the bus back to school!

Class 3 had their exit point for their IPC unit ‘Temples, Tombs and Treasures’ where they learnt about the Egyptians. The whole class dressed up and got into character. They made Egyptian flatbread and ancient tiger nut balls as well as Egyptian board games. To top off the day our Egyptian intern Rawda from secondary was able to share a presentation with the class.

This week in assembly Class 1 shared their learning about environmental awareness and climate change. They had lots of information to tell us and were able to explain all about the things they had learnt. They spent a long time studying Greta Thunberg & David Attenborough and found ways that we can all help to save our planet! They had a wonderful music performance with instruments and coloured scarves included in their presentation too. Well done Class 1.

ISBe Games are happening each Thursday break time. The students are really enjoying this activity, supporting each other and cheering their teams. Today they were using the air from a balloon to move and knock down paper cups. Thank you to Ms Saachi and the Primary Student Voice for organising this.

Enjoy the Easter holidays. Let’s hope we get some sunshine.

We will see everyone on the 15th April.
