The Primary Section Stories – 31/03

Last week was literacy week here in school and we had lots of scheduled events to make it fun and interesting for the students as well as to advance their language skills and ideas. We did several activities in a range of languages such as the staff poetry recitals and teachers were asked to say which was their favourite childhood book, then the students had to guess whose each one was. The classes did DEAR – drop everything and read – each day, they wrote composite stories, had a tongue twister competition and had a tea party with me, to name but a few of the activities. We finished the week off with our book character day, where the children and teacher dressed up as a character from a book.

This week we were able to share the Early Years video with the whole school. The students shared some of the topics they had covered in their learning by performing songs and poems, dressing up and generally having a fun time. It takes a lot of hard work on the part of our staff to teach them all about these things and then put together the items. Thank you to Mrs Harwood, Ms Laura, Ms Nichols and Ms Irina for all their hard work and to our students and Mr Jay who had a thoroughly good time performing.

This week EY have had Easter Egg hunts and lots of outside activities too.

It was wonderful to see all of our parents in school the last two Saturdays for our Reconnect Days. I think we all had a lovely time and the glorious weather for both Saturdays was a bonus. It was so nice to be able to speak face to face with people and enjoy the activities. The feedback from parents was so very positive, which made all our efforts feel appreciated. Thank you. There are a small section of the photos here. Please check your email for more photos.

We have just received the results from the Maths Olympiad. We are very pleased with the school’s results and will be sharing some of the highlights with you next term.

Our reports went out today. On the whole our children make excellent progress and achieve well. All parents should have booked their Parent teacher conferences for this week. Please remember to attend the meetings you have booked. OUr teachers feel very disappointed if they are sitting waiting for parents to appear.

Last week it was class 5’s assembly. They reviewed the books of the characters they had come dressed up as. The book reviews were very professional, giving just a taster to whet the appetite, indicating the age group they thought they were suitable for and giving the book an overall rating. There were quite a few books that I felt I really wanted to read on their recommendation. Great job class 5.

Best wishes for a wonderful weekend and a great holiday. We will see everyone back in school on the 19th April.
