The Secondary Section Stories 06/12/2024

The Secondary Section Stories 06/12/2024

To our valued parents and ISBe community members,

What a wonderful few weeks we have had in Secondary School! I would like to start by reflecting on the tremendous success of our Festival of Lights celebration. It was heartwarming to see parents, students, and staff come together as a community to celebrate this joyous event. The vibrant displays, delicious treats, and shared moments of laughter and connection truly highlighted the spirit of our school. Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making it such a memorable evening.

Last week, we were delighted to host twenty students from the International School of Stuttgart, Germany, and the British International School of Ljubljana, Slovenia, along with ten members of our own Student Council. This collaborative exchange focused on student leadership and included workshops, project development, and an inspiring visit to the European Parliament. Together, students explored the House of European History and the Parlamentarium, broadening their understanding of European heritage and governance. Our leadership sessions addressed vital themes such as turning ideas into action, designing impactful initiatives, and effectively evaluating outcomes. Drama workshops provided students with valuable skills in public speaking and team leadership, further enriching their leadership journey.

A standout moment of the week was the Dragons’ Relay, a high-energy event that combined teamwork and creativity as students worked together to solve challenges. The week concluded with a Student Council-led hot chocolate fundraiser, which brought warmth and joy to our school while supporting a great cause. This collaborative experience not only fostered new friendships but also reinforced our commitment to student voice and leadership.

On a staffing note, I am delighted to welcome Ms. Daniela to our school. She will be taking on Science for Classes 6 and 7 and Mathematics for Classes 6 to 8. Her expertise and enthusiasm will undoubtedly be a fantastic addition to our team. I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Smilkstein and Mrs. Poole for their outstanding support during the transition period—they have truly gone above and beyond to ensure a seamless experience for our students.

Finally, I would like to remind parents of the importance of clear communication when students leave early. If your child needs to leave school before the end of the day, please ensure that the homeroom teacher, reception, and the Head of Section are copied into your email. This helps us to coordinate effectively and ensure the safety of all students.

As we approach the end of the term, I encourage you to stay engaged with our many activities and events. We also warmly invite you to the Parent-Teacher Conferences taking place next Friday. This is a wonderful opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and celebrate their achievements this term.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support of our vibrant school community. On behalf of the Secondary team, I wish you and your family a joyous and restful holiday season.

Warm regards,

Tala Issa
