The Secondary Section Stories – 16/06/2023

It has been another busy few weeks for students and staff as we count down the final weeks of the school year.

Class 10 and 12 have finished their IGCSE and IBDP exams respectively and now middle school students  have also finished block exams – a big sigh of relief from everyone. While these exams help provide information about students’ knowledge and understanding, they are only one piece of information about student progress. Students have already been able to demonstrate their skills through a range of ways: assignments, projects and other activities.

Our class 12 graduates celebrated the end of their school journey in a lovely ceremony this week. We are so proud of their achievements and we wish them well in the next part of their journey. IB results will be available around July 5. Thanks also to our class 11 students, especially Joshua C and Isabelle who worked with Ms Kimman to set up the ceremony.

Class 11 have returned from their internships and there have been quite a few excursions happening. Class 8 and IB higher level English students in class 11 have been to Fort Breendonk and Kazeme Dossin. French students in class 11 also visited the Red Star Line museum with Madame Bianca. Making connections to more authentic and real life experiences, definitely promotes a better understanding for students.

Other events that have also been in action over the past few weeks include Dragon house running a lunchtime event of  ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ this week – great for skill development as well as formulating team strategies. Class 9 and some class10 students experienced a two day adventure for the Duke of Edinburgh, learning new skills, navigating, cooking and organising their groups. Mr Jonathon has also been working with staff and students to prepare our new promotional video for ISBe  – look out for it in a few weeks!

Finally, our school hosted the second annual Benelux Football Cup last Friday which saw students from five other international schools and ISBe participate in a very close competition. I am proud to say that both our girls and boys team finished in 1st place in their respective divisions. A remarkable achievement and well done to their coaches – Mr Gabor and Mr Ruben.

A reminder that the last two weeks of school, secondary students will be on an alternative program that will involve a number of educational activities and events e.g. MUN, Offsite trips and presentations. Students have been provided with a schedule for this.
