The Secondary Section Stories – 16/12

The last month of term 1 has been a hectic ride up to winter vacation. We have been plagued by lots of illness both staff and students which has had its’ challenges.

A focus for students in exam years of their program has been preparations leading up to mocks and final exams. We are also meeting with students and parents to discuss subject selections for IGCSE and IBDP and this will connect with their future dreams and university pathways. Middle school completed their block exams and have now started the next units of work

We celebrated the holidays, Belgium style with a visit from Sinterklaas and Zwarte Pete who had treats for students and I am pleased to say hardly anyone ended up in the naughty sack, (may be just a few teachers!)

We acknowledged the importance of literacy by participating in literacy week where students and staff took part in many activities – sharing a favourite book, teachers sharing favourite poems, cosy reading and quiz time, dress as a book character etc. You can read about some more details later in the newsletter.

Students and staff demonstrated their cake decorating skills and were challenged by the artic conditions that froze their icing tubes! This was a fun house event and showed the lateral thinking skills of a particular house that was decorating a cake with out a cake?? Student council also arranged a Christmas dress-up day which showcased some of the ugliest Christmas sweaters I have ever since.

It was great to see so many parents and students on site for the parent/teacher conferences. It has been a few years since we were able to invite you on site and it was good to see your smiling faces.

I would like to wish everyone a relaxing and joyous vacation. Enjoy time with friends and family, and recharge before we see you again in the new year.

A few important dates and events coming up:

January

Monday 9 – Term 2 starts

Wednesday 11- Thursday 12 – Patrick Ryan- famous story teller and literary personality will visit.

Monday 23 – Wednesday 25 – NEASC accreditation visit

Happy Holidays,
