The Secondary Section Stories – 21/02/2025

To our valued parents and ISBe community members,

We hope you are enjoying the warmer weather today. It has been a wonderful and eventful time in Secondary, filled with meaningful initiatives and impressive achievements by our students.

Last week, we marked R U OKAY? Day, a vital initiative focused on mental health awareness and the importance of checking in on one another. Organized by Class 7, the event featured a variety of engaging activities for both students and staff, fostering meaningful conversations and a supportive atmosphere. A highlight of the day was a talk by Ms. Briana, our Secondary School Counsellor, who spoke with students about mental health and the importance of looking out for one another. A special thank you to Mrs. Smilksteina and Mrs. Pooles for their guidance and support in making this event such a success.

We also had the pleasure of attending Class 6’s Dutch assembly. Class 6 had an exciting PSHE lesson, where they showcased their IMYC ‘Creativity’ unit in Dutch. Their presentation focused on clothing, appearances, and giving compliments, demonstrating how characters can be developed in creative ways. Through dramatic performances, students brought their characters to life, making it an engaging and memorable experience for everyone in Secondary. Well done class 6 and Ms Kristien.

In the sporting arena, our boys’ and girls’ football teams had the opportunity to showcase their skills in two exciting matches. They competed against a school in the Netherlands and one in Brussles, demonstrating not only their talent but also their teamwork and sportsmanship. A huge thank you to Mr. Ruber and Mr. Gabor for their dedication and leadership in coaching the teams. We are incredibly proud of our players for their hard work and the way they represented our school.

This past week, we also celebrated Valentine’s Day with a variety of fun and engaging activities organized by the Student Council. One of the highlights was the Valentine’s Bake Sale, which was a fantastic success. Students and staff enjoyed a wonderful selection of treats, and the funds raised will go towards future student-led initiatives. A big thank you to the Student Council for their enthusiasm and effort in making this event such a memorable one!

Additionally, I would like to extend my appreciation to the Class 8 parents who joined us for the IGCSE Options Zoom meeting. Your support in guiding students’ future choices is greatly appreciated. Thank you for being part of this important discussion.

Finally, a reminder to all parents—if any issues arise regarding your child in Secondary, please contact their homeroom teacher directly as the first step. If the matter is not resolved, do not hesitate to reach out to me directly so that we can work together to support your child.

Thank you for your continued support in celebrating our students’ achievements, both in and out of the classroom.

Warm regards,

Tala Issa
