The Secondary Section Stories – 24/09

After four weeks we are definitely settled into the new school year and students are enjoying the new experiences in their learning. We are in the process of updating the secondary environment to provide students with different types of learning spaces and also some break time options.

This week we finished our ‘Team Chess Tournament’ that involved about 20 secondary students. The competition was tight, the spectators engaged and players plotting their favourite strategies. It was good to see some beginners who were focused on developing their skills. Congratulations to our runners up from class 7 – Aahil & Aarush and well done to the winners from class 9 – Hari & Shrey. The next chess tournament is for senior students and will start in October.

There is a lot of active learning happening in classrooms across secondary as students focus on their academic progress. Our science labs are getting a work out with experiments and investigations across all grade levels. I can see French and Dutch in action too with lots of interactive tasks and opportunities to practice spoken language. I have even encountered a history lesson with students using a variation to the game of musical chairs to discuss important political figures. Quality teaching and learning in action!!

Being the start of the year, we have been selecting our student leaders for 2021-22. We have seen the largest number of applicants for positions this year and it is great to see so many students willing to take on responsibility and contribute to the school in different ways. Congratulations to the follow students….
