The Secondary Section Stories – 25/02

So today we break for half term in term 2 with a week’s holiday to relax, recharge and for some students, review. When we return after the holiday, it is only a short 4 weeks until the end of term.

Since the last newsletter, students have been busy with a range of activities: balancing academics with fun house and school events. IGCSE students have finished mocks exams and IBDP students are working actively on Theory of Knowledge integration, finalizing their Extended Essay topics and updating their CAS activities log. House pride is evident in war cry competitions and a lips syncing battle

This past week has seen the school come alive with the range of experiences and opportunities for students. There have been three big events that have allowed students to expand their learning, explore concepts in depth and showcase their remarkable abilities.

Some fantastic speeches were given from 22 secondary school students, across all grades, reminding us how confident and articulate many of our students are. It is a focus area for us as school to encourage students to be good communicators and effective presenters. They spoke about a range of topics including success, developing empathy, women in sport and dangerous additives in food.

Two candidates from each house were selected for the final which will happen after the holidays.

Dragons – Kashvi C9 & Annisha C9, Phoenix – Rahul C9 & Nivaan C7, Unicorns – Navya C9 & Jasmine C6.

Class 6 ‘Creativity’ exit point for IMYC

The exit point for this unit culminated in presentations for both French and Dutch. For French, selected  a character and created a short video with a voice over. They then presented short skits about fashion, clothing, appearance and giving compliments in Dutch. The finale, also in Dutch was a fashion parade with commentary where students strutted their stuff on the catwalk – lots of fun for the students and the audience, great work.

Science & Math Week

It has been a week full of construction, design and creativity for all secondary students as part of Science and Math week (SMW). We watched in awe as students designed, built and tested Martian rockets, rovers, domes and models. Not only did students show initiative and creativity but then they were able to reflect of their designs and recommend improvements for future models. A fabulous week of interactive and hands on learning!
