The Secondary Section Stories – 25/11

The term continues to be busy with lots of activities and opportunities for students.

A focus for students in exam years of their program has been preparations leading up to mocks and final exams. We are also meeting with students and parents to discuss subject selections for IGCSE and IBDP and this will connect with their future dreams and university pathways.

Last week we celebrated anti-bullying week and the themes of ‘It is ok to be different’ and ‘Kindness’. Odd sock day was a symbolic recognition of embracing difference and individuality. On ‘Frienship Friday’, we created messages for the friendship tree that showed kindness and consideration for others.

Students have been involved in a lot of workshops and excursions that reinforce their skills and learning in a more practical and meaningful way. Class 6 attended a ‘Lie Detector’ workshop exploring the world of fake news, while class 7 visited Antwerp on a historical walk and tour of Plantin Moretus as part of their Humanities course.

In Senior school, Art students from class 10-12 visited the newly opened Fine Arts museum, the Black Panther Gallery and the Art department at Antwerp University for an amazing day of creativity and wonder. Senior students also ventured into Brussels for the day to explore the history of the European union, the world of money and a fantastic role play activity about the European parliament. Students were highly engaged and showed their communication and debate skills honed by our MUN conferences.

Various students across the school took part in the Math Olympiad this week. It is great to see students challenging themselves and developing their skills in this area. Phoenix house organised their house event this week too that saw teams participating in dodgeball and spike ball competitions. Surprisingly both events won by Phoenix house so they add more points to their tally.

Here are some important dates and events coming up so mark them in your calendars. I am particularly looking forward to seeing everyone at the ‘Festival of Lights’ on Saturday.
