The Secondary Section Stories – 26/11

Cold and Flu season is in full swing and we have had a number of students and staff away sick over the past few weeks. While we encourage students to stay home, rest and recover when they are not well, regular attendance is essential at all other times to maximize student learning. As such, we would ask that you make appointments outside school hours where possible and ensure students are in attendance to the very end of each term. The last school day for term 1 is Thursday 16 December and we expect all students to be in attendance up to this date. Early leave will only be granted in exceptional circumstances and approval must be obtained by the Head of Secondary or the Head of School. Parent teacher conferences will be held virtually on Friday 17 December – look out for booking information in the near future.

Recent activities for House Pride Day have seen students cheering on their house team through war cries, a House Parade and showing their beautiful, new, large House Flags (Thanks to Mr Bob for the designs). They also participated in a House Hoops competition for primary and secondary.

We have held a few parent events in the senior school. Firstly, an information session about the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) course and then a Careers’ Talk about taking risks and turning failures into opportunities! Our class 10 and 11 students also visited Antwerp University to get a taste of campus life and explore the growing number of options being offered not only in Dutch but in English. It seems that local universities within Belgium (Antwerp, Leuven & Thomas More) are starting to take on a more international feel, affording our students some amazing opportunities.

With only 3 weeks until the end of term and there is a lot of activities still to come:

December:

Thursday 2 – Football match versus Bogaerts

Monday 6-Wednesday 8 – Middle School Block exams (Class 6, 7 and 8)

Thursday 9 – House present wrapping competition

Friday 10 – Talent show Class 5-11

Monday 13- Tuesday 14 – House Quiz by CAS students

Wednesday 15 – Drama Production 6pm

Thursday 16 – Christmas Dress –up Day, Music Assemblies & last day of term

Friday 17 – parent teacher Conferences
