The Secondary Section Stories 27/10/2023

To our valued parents and ISBe community members,

Last week at ISBe, we had an exciting lineup of activities and events that left our community spellbound. From enchanting classroom experiences to a bewitching Halloween celebration, there was something for everyone to enjoy. Let’s take a look back at the highlights of that thrilling week at ISBe!

Middle School IMYC Updates:

In the IMYC unit for class 6, we have completed our discussion on the concept of adaptability and have now shifted our focus to the study of different structures.

In class 7, we have completed our discussion on the topic of communication, and we have now transitioned to exploring the concept of belief.

In class 8, we have thoroughly explored the concept of leadership, and now we are delving into the topic of challenge.

High School Updates:

The students, especially those in class 10 and 12, have been putting in tremendous effort to prepare for their mock exams and complete the remaining course material in the IGCSE and the IBDP programmes.

Class 11 has reached a significant milestone by successfully completing their TOK (Theory of Knowledge) exhibition. Congratulations to our diligent students on this achievement!

While these spine-tingling academic experiences have been capturing our attention, the non-academic side of life at ISBe has been equally captivating. From Halloween costumes  to pumpkin carving extravaganzas, our school has been alive with the Halloween spirit. Stay tuned for more ghoulish fun!

IBDP Information Session:

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who attended the IBDP (International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme) information session. Your participation was greatly appreciated, and we hope you found the session insightful.

You can access the presentation by following this link. Please note that the presentation slides provide the basics, and there was substantial additional information shared during the workshop. If you have any questions or need further clarification, we encourage you to reach out to Ms Kimman (IBDP coordinator) or contact me directly.

Your engagement and enthusiasm in our workshops are key to the success of the IBDP programme. We look forward to more productive sessions and discussions in the future. Thank you for your ongoing support!

Halloween Carving Competition:

On Tuesday 24 October, ISBe’s first break time on the playground was the scene of an exciting House competition. Tying in with this time of the year, teams of both teachers and students from all three Houses worked together to ensure their House produced the best carved pumpkin! This year’s criteria was very simple; focus only on the carving, and that is what each team did. In front of an audience of very excited students, each team set to work, making the job of deciding who the winner would be a very difficult one. Well done to Phoenix whose pumpkin-carving abilities and creativity won their House 100 House Points!

Student Voice Initiative and Fundraising:

Students extended the spirit of Halloween by organizing a heartwarming fundraising event, emphasizing that Halloween is more than costumes and candy. The Primary Student Voice, led by Ms Saachi, along with the participation of Class 2 and support from both Class 1 and Class 5, organized an exciting Halloween event to kick off the Primary Student Voice Healthy Eating campaign. They orchestrated a variety of enjoyable Halloween activities that promoted a healthy approach, free from unhealthy food and drinks

Student Council Halloween Movie Event:

On October 27th, the student council hosted a Halloween ‘movie afternoon’ for classes 6 to 10 at ISBe. Students dressed up in creative costumes, and the event was a tremendous success. Classes 6, 9, and 10 enjoyed ‘Coco’ with Dutch subtitles. Classes 7 and 8 watched ‘Corpse Bride’ together, and classes 9 and 10 had a thrilling experience with a selection of short horror films. It was a memorable and enjoyable way to end a successful half term

Wishing everyone a fantastic half-term break, and looking forward to welcoming all our students back bright and early on Monday, November 6th.

Warm regards,

Tala Issa
