During the IPC topic Weather and Climate, C5 students had a look at how scientists record patterns of the weather across different times and areas, and what kind of instruments they use so that they can make predictions about what kind of weather might happen next.
With only five cardboard cups, two straws, a pushpin and a sharpened pencil with eraser, the students were able to create an anemometer and take it outside to test the wind speed. Students made a small, yet visible mark on one of the cups. By seeing the mark as the anemometer spins, the children will be able to count the revolutions.
