Dear Parents and Carers,

The new early morning routine has been going well. Those children who arrive before 8.30 are able to go outside and play or meet in the lunchroom if wet. This has proved popular with the students who are pleased to get in that little bit early.

Last week was our STEAMfest. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. The theme this year was curiosity and sustainability. Our teachers arranged some fantastic experiences for our students. Class 1 started building their own bug hotel and learned about pollination. Some classes worked together on projects. For example Class 3 and 5 worked on designing a sustainable farm for the future. We participated in online events world wide and several classes worked on Pi-day activities. We rounded off the week with Class 5 presenting a fantastic assembly which included some workshops. As always the students learned a lot and had a great time doing it. Please see Mrs Harwood’s notes about STEAM in Early Years.

On Monday of this week, classes 3 and 4 took a trip to Aartselaar library. The Library is always very welcoming and they have different activities for the students to participate in. This time the students did an animal scavenger hunt and made an animal fortune teller. Two of our students read the others a story in Dutch. (They did an excellent job.) We were then able to discuss the meaning of the book.

We have three interns in school at the moment who are learning their craft in our school. We have quite the reputation as a teaching school with several universities and the interns always appreciate their experience with us. We certainly appreciate them being in school.

Our new private speech therapist is now established in school and is working with several children. If you are interested in her working with your child please speak to Ms Mac. We can consider the child’s needs and see if a space can be made available.

The Primary girls football team had a match with Montgomery School on Tuesday and performed very well with a great win.

On Thursday we had a sports tournament with Cricklade Manor Preparatory School from England. The students had a lot of fun, got to know some new friends and enjoyed the very good weather. Their sports coaches commented on the excellent playing skills of some of the girl footballers! We played football, hockey, basketball and dodgeball. Thank you to all of the teachers who supported this event.

On Wednesday some of our drama students took their LAMDA exams. In previous years we have had very good results and we are looking forward to seeing how this year’s students got on. We are lucky to have a specialist drama teacher in the school who can guide our students to get the best results.

On Wednesday we also had our first exchange visit of the year with the Jesode-Hatora school in Antwerp. The students who visit us are always extremely delighted to see our school and enjoy the activities we share and the girls from the school were no exception. Our class 5 boys were able to go and play basketball at their school. They demonstrated great sportsmanship and made our school proud. Next week it will be class 4’s turn.

Have a lovely weekend and a great week ahead.

Warm regards,
Sharon Short
